Everest Three Passes Trek

Trip Overview

One of challenging and strenuous treks in the Khumbu Everest region of Nepal, the three high passes Renjo pass (5,388m), Chola pass (5,420m) ,Kongma La Pass (5,535m) trek takes you into the heart of the Khumbu valley and the Everest Base Camp region. Through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Himalaya , the trek gives you the chance of discovering the Sherpa country of the Khumbu valleys and cross some of the highest passes in the worlds.

During the trek, an ascent of Gokyo Ri (5357m), Kala Pattar (5,545m) and Everest Base Camp (5364m) gives you magnificent close-up views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and more. Our guides and Sherpa friends will offer you an insight into the Sherpa homeland and their way of life.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
  • Day 2: In Kathmandu for official procedures.
  • Day 3: Transport to airport for flight to Lukla (2840m). Meet with your guide and we start a moderate ascent to Phakding where we spend our first night. (2610m)
  • Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m) the region’s main commercial centre.
  • Day 5: Rest day in Namche Bazar for acclimatization. Enjoy several short climbs to spots of interest to help you acclimatize or visit the Tourist Visitor Center and museum, or the Everest View Hotel for breathtaking views.
  • Day 6: Trek to Thame (3820m).
  • Day 7: In Thame for acclimatization. Visit Thame Gompa is situated above the village overlooking the valley and is the favored site for the spring celebrations of the Thame Mani Rimdu festival.
  • Day 8: Trek to Lungden (4350m) It is a moderate walk to Lungden was easy and with a gentle angle. Lunch break will be in Marlung - one of the larger villages in Thame Valley.
  • Day 9: Cross Renjo La (5340m) - Gokyo (4790m). From the pass views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse,Nuptse, Cho-Oyu, Makalu and Cholatse can be seen.
  • Day 10: Hike up to Gokyo Ri (5360m) for spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayas or rest for remaining part of the day.
  • Day 11: Trek to Dragnag (4700m)a small village on the other side of the glacier, just south-east from Gokyo.
  • Day 12: Cross Cho La (5330m)-Dzonglha (4830m) - A challenging day as we ascend up steep and icy terrain to Cho La pass that connects the village of Dzongla to the east and the village of Thagnak to the west.
  • Day 13: Trek to Lobuche (4910m). The trail heads east and then north to go around the eastern slopes of Lobuche East and joins the main Everest trail.
  • Day 14: Visit Everest Base Camp (5364m) & trek back to Gorak Shep (5140m). Gorakshep is the highest settlement before the Everest Base Camp.
  • Day 15: Hike up Kala Pattar (5550m) viewpoint for breathtaking panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori and Lobhuche West along with Khumbu glacier and Lho La, a pass connecting Nepal and Tibet (China). Trek back to Lobuche
  • Day 16: Cross Kongma La (5535m) to Chukung (4730mm) - It is the highest pass among 3 Everest passes.
  • Day 17: Trek to Tengboche
  • Day 18: Trek to Namche Bazar
  • Day 19: Trek to Lukla
  • Day 20: Scheduled flight to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel
  • Day 21: In Kathmandu
  • Day 22: International departure

Cost includes

  • Transfer airport-hotel-airport for Int. and domestic flights.
  • 3 star hotel accommodation on room sharing and breakfast in Kathmandu as per itinerary.
  • Airfare Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu
  • Standard lodge accommodation on a double room basis with fixed meals during the trek. (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • Wages, accommodation and food for guide and porters. (2 trekkers share 1 porter on trek).
  • Applicable government and local taxes, conservation fee, insurance for guide and porters.

Cost does not include

  • Expenses of personal nature, personal tips, alcoholic and cold drinks, mineral and boiled water, snacks/coffee/tea in between meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) hot showers during the trek.
  • Meals in Kathmandu.
  • Travel insurance, personal medical expenses, rescue evacuation.
  • Personal trekking gears.
  • Any costs arising due to flight cancellations, political disturbance, natural disaster and deviation in programs.
  • Tourist visa for Nepal and International flight to/from Kathmandu.

Grade I

  • Easy to moderate hiking and trekking
  • Light packs (10kg)
  • Elevations often below 2500m
  • Easy terrain
  • Trek duration less than a week in high altitude

Grade II

  • Moderate to strenuous trekking
  • May require carrying bag pack (10kg)
  • Elevations from 2500m to 5500m
  • Moderate terrain
  • Nights are spent in lodge or tents
  • Trek duration of two weeks in high altitude

Grade III

  • Moderate to strenuous trekking
  • May require carrying bag packs (12)
  • Elevations from 2800m to 5500m
  • Moderate to intermediate terrain with short scrambling and descent on moraine/scree sections
  • Nights are spent in tents or lodge
  • Three high passes above 4500m
  • May involve travel to remote areas
  • Trek duration up to three weeks
  • Average of six hours trek per day

    Grade IV

    • Strenuous trekking and climbing
    • May require carrying bag packs (12)
    • Elevations from 2800m to 5500m
    • Moderate to intermediate terrain with short scrambling and descent on moraine/scree sections
    • Terrain might be snow or ice or rock or all mixed including glaciers
    • Few nights are spent in tent at high altitude during peak ascent
    • Nights are spent in tents or lodge
    • Involves travel in remote areas
    • Trek duration of two to three weeks
    • Includes several high passes trek and 6000m peak ascent
    • Minimum seven hours of average trek per day

    Grade V

    • Strenuous climbing
    • May require carrying bag packs (15kg)
    • High or extreme altitude with elevation above 7000m
    • Intermediate to advance terrain
    • Nights are spent in tents
    • Moderate to extreme glacier travel is involved
    • Travel in remote areas
    • Usually expedition duration above four weeks
