Overview

The Amphu Laptsa Pass stands as one of the most demanding and technical high-altitude crossings that connects the remote valleys of the Everest region in Nepal. It is a technical challenge that moves you from the Makalu Barun National Park into the heart of the Khumbu.

The Amphu Laptsa Pass is a serious, rewarding undertaking that combines the solitude of a remote Makalu Barun National Park valley with the thrill of a technical climb, finishing in the iconic Khumbu region

The Journey

  • The Route: The trek traverses the pristine and beautiful Hongu Valley before tackling the steep, technical ascent of the Amphu Laptsa Pass.
  • The Transition: Upon crossing, you descend directly into the heart of the Khumbu Valley, arriving at the high-altitude settlement of Chukung.
  • Spectacular Views: Due to its unique southern vantage point, the pass offers unparalleled and rare panoramic views of the Everest massif and the surrounding giants.

Essential Skills & Gear: This is not a standard trek. You must be proficient in using crampons, an ice axe, a climbing harness, and know how to rappel. The use of ascenders/jumars on fixed lines during the ascent is also common
