Overview

The Chulu Far East Peak (6,059m / 19,879ft) is one of the most accessible 6,000-meter trekking peaks in Nepal’s Annapurna region. Part of the Chulu mountain chain in the Damodar Himal, it towers above the village of Manang along the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek. Known affectionately as the “Tiger Baby” for its striped appearance, this peak offers a technically straightforward ascent that serves as an ideal introduction to Himalayan mountaineering .

Why Choose Chulu Far East?

This peak stands out among Nepal’s trekking peaks for several compelling reasons: Technically straightforward—no previous climbing experience required. Requires good physical fitness and proper acclimatization. Combined with the iconic Annapurna Circuit Trek and Thorung La Pass. Stunning summit views of Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Pisang Peak.

Technical Requirements:

  • PD+ (moderate); technical difficulty T5
  • Safe crampon walking on slopes up to 40 degrees
  • Ability to ascend fixed ropes using a jumar (ascender)
  • Familiarity with basic rope work and glacier travel protocols

Best Time to Climb

  • Spring (March to May) with Warmer temperatures and stable climbing conditions. The wscent is often more comfortable, though there may be more snow on the trail
  • Autumn (October to November): The most stable weather window. Post-monsoon air is incredibly clear, providing the sharpest views of the 8,000m peaks.
