Manaslu circuit with Tsum valley trek

Trek Highlights

The combined trek is celebrated for offering diversity that is difficult to find on a single route and you will experience :

  • Dramatic transition from subtropical valleys to high alpine passes, with close-up views of Manaslu (8,163m), Ganesh Himal, and panoramic vistas from Larkya La Pass.
  • Deep dive into Tibetan Buddhist culture. The Tsum Valley, opened to trekkers only in 2008, is exceptionally preserved with ancient monasteries, vast mani walls, and unique traditions. The Manaslu side offers villages with strong Gurung and Tibetan influences.
  • A moderate to challenging trek due to its 18-22 day length, sustained high altitude, and the demanding crossing of Larkya La Pass. Excellent fitness and proper acclimatization are essential.
  • Best Time to Go: The ideal seasons are Spring (March-May) for blooming rhododendrons and Autumn (September-November) for stable weather and clear skies.

Overview

The Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley trek is an exceptional 20 days adventure in Nepal that merges two of the country’s most remote and culturally rich routes, offering unparalleled Himalayan beauty and authentic cultural immersion. This combination creates a more profound and varied experience than either trek alone.

Journey Overview

The trek is a long loop that first diverts into the sacred Tsum Valley before linking back to the main Manaslu Circuit route.

  • Starting Point: A scenic but long drive from Kathmandu to the trailhead, typically at Machha Khola or Soti Khola.
  • Tsum Valley Detour:At Lokpa, the trail splits. You’ll head north into the Hidden Valley to explore Tibetan villages like Chumling and Chhokangparo, reaching the spiritual center of Mu Gompa (3,700m) before descending to rejoin the main circuit at Deng.
  • Manaslu Circuit The route then ascends through villages like Namrung and Samagaon before the dramatic climax: crossing the Larkya La Pass (5,106m – 5,160m), the highest point of the trek. The trek concludes by descending to Dharapani or Besisahar.
