Langtang–Gosaikund-Helambu Trek

Trip Overview

The combination of Langtang and The Helambu is an adventure of diverse landscapes and cultural experiences. The trek takes you along terraced fields, picturesque villages, monasteries and temples, lush green forests of rhododendron, to alpine meadows to amazing views of snow-capped mountains. Starting from Syabrubesi,( 132km from Kathmandu), the region is one of the nearest treks from Kathmandu.

Gosaikunda lake holy to Hindus, Buddhists and Tamang shamans alike is one of the major pilgrim sites in Nepal, situated at an elevation of 4400m. Home to different sects like Tamangs, Brahmins, Chettris Sherpas., the Sherpas who live in the Helambu region call themselves Hyalmo after the name of their sacred valley, Helambu.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
  • Day 2: In Kathmandu for official procedures.
  • Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi (1460m) by local express bus.
  • Day 4: Trek to Lama Hotel (2340m).
  • Day 5: Trek to Langtang (3330m).
  • Day 6: Trek to Kyangjin (3730m).
  • Day 7: Trek to Kyangjin–Hike up Tsergo Ri (4984m).
  • Day 8: Trek to Ghore Tabela (2992m).
  • Day 9: Trek to Thulo Syabru (2210m).
  • Day 10: Trek to Cholangpati (3584m).
  • Day 11: Trek to Gosainkunda (4380m).
  • Day 12: Trek to Ghopte Odar (3430m) after crossing Lauribina Pass (4610m).
  • Day 13: Trek to Melamchi Gaon (2530m).
  • Day 14: Trek to Tarkeygang (2740m).
  • Day 15: Trek to Sermathang (2590m).
  • Day 16: Trek to Melamchi Bazar and drive to Kathmandu.
  • Day 17: International departure.

Cost includes

  • Airport-hotel-airport transfers for Int. flights.
  • Standard lodge accommodation on room sharing basis with meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) during the trek.
  • Wages, accommodation and food of guide and porter on trek. (2 trekkers share 1 porter on trek)
  • Applicable government and local taxes and insurance for guide and porters.
  • Transportation: KTM-Syabrubesi-Melamche-KTM.

Cost does not include

  • Expenses of personal nature, personal tips, alcoholic beverages, cold drinks and mineral water/boiled water.
  • Accommodation and meals in Kathmandu.
  • Travel insurance, personal medical expenses and rescue evacuation.
  • Hot shower during the trek.
  • Personal trekking gears.
  • Any costs arising due to flight cancellation, political disturbance, natural disaster and deviation in programs.

Grade I

  • Easy to moderate hiking and trekking
  • Light packs (10kg)
  • Elevations often below 2500m
  • Easy terrain
  • Trek duration less than a week in high altitude

Grade II

  • Moderate to strenuous trekking
  • May require carrying bag pack (10kg)
  • Elevations from 2500m to 5500m
  • Moderate terrain
  • Nights are spent in lodge or tents
  • Trek duration of two weeks in high altitude

Grade III

  • Moderate to strenuous trekking
  • May require carrying bag packs (12)
  • Elevations from 2800m to 5500m
  • Moderate to intermediate terrain with short scrambling and descent on moraine/scree sections
  • Nights are spent in tents or lodge
  • Three high passes above 4500m
  • May involve travel to remote areas
  • Trek duration up to three weeks
  • Average of six hours trek per day

    Grade IV

    • Strenuous trekking and climbing
    • May require carrying bag packs (12)
    • Elevations from 2800m to 5500m
    • Moderate to intermediate terrain with short scrambling and descent on moraine/scree sections
    • Terrain might be snow or ice or rock or all mixed including glaciers
    • Few nights are spent in tent at high altitude during peak ascent
    • Nights are spent in tents or lodge
    • Involves travel in remote areas
    • Trek duration of two to three weeks
    • Includes several high passes trek and 6000m peak ascent
    • Minimum seven hours of average trek per day

    Grade V

    • Strenuous climbing
    • May require carrying bag packs (15kg)
    • High or extreme altitude with elevation above 7000m
    • Intermediate to advance terrain
    • Nights are spent in tents
    • Moderate to extreme glacier travel is involved
    • Travel in remote areas
    • Usually expedition duration above four weeks
